A Hormone Imbalance: The Root Of A Variety Of Health Problems

February 8th, 2010

Women have more problems with a hormone imbalance than men because of the way their bodies are made. A woman’s normal cycle is 28 days. Estrogen is produced in the first part of the cycle, followed by ovulation and then in the last part of the cycle, progesterone is produced to prepare the body in the event that she conceives.

If the woman is not pregnant, she has her period, and the process of hormone fabrication begins all over again. This happens on a monthly basis. Some women do not ovulate which means estrogen is produced, but progesterone is not. The only time progesterone is produced is in preparation to receive the egg after ovulation. The lack of progesterone causes an imbalance to occur.

As a woman ages, the same thing happens. Less progesterone is produced in the body, while more estrogen builds up. Some girls start this problem with their first period, or a woman may start it after she has her first baby. Age and having a tubal ligation can, also, cause the hormones to become unbalanced. Once this starts it has a domino on the woman’s health.

The brain is the first thing that is affected by an imbalance of these two hormones. It swells, and women will notice tenderness in their breasts, their hands swell, they have mood swings or they may have headaches. The thyroid can, also, be affected by too much estrogen. The thyroid causes the adrenal glands to stress out, and that causes adrenal fatigue. Once the adrenal glands are exhausted, the woman may experience such symptoms as depression, fatigue, weight gain, sleep problems and the inability to think clearly along with many other health problems.

Anytime there is an imbalance of hormones, the entire immune system is affected. This causes the woman’s fitness level to decrease. She no longer feels like exercising or worrying about her health. She just tries to survive each day. Sometimes it gets so bad she can hardly function.

Interestingly, most women do not see their doctors about this problem because they do not think there is anything wrong. They think it is a problem of just being overworked from trying to care for their husband, home and children and juggle their job at the same time. They, also, have a tendency to think that all women experience the same thing.

Taking natural progesterone is the only way a woman can balance out her hormones when her estrogen is too high. If she does not do this, her fitness level drops even more. She will begin to feel better and have more energy once the amount of progesterone in the body is at the same level as that of estrogen. Her family will consider her to be a different person.

When a woman begins to use the recommended doses of natural progesterone cream, she will not notice a change immediately. It will take anywhere from three to four months for the hormones to become balanced again. She should be able to tell that the hormones are balancing because she will feel better, she will be able to think clearer, the mood swings will go away along with the depression and she will feel like doing things again.

Any woman who is experiencing these symptoms should see her doctor. If not, she should at least begin using a natural progesterone cream, and see if the symptoms begin to ease up after a couple of months. If they don’t begin to respond, the symptoms may be caused by something more serious.

Excessive estrogen in the blood affects the brain, causing it to swell. The most common problems a female faces are breast tenderness, mood swings and even weight gain. We’ve got the inside scoop on how to lose weight with fat burning foods

Information On Infertility Stress

January 26th, 2010

Infertility is one of the most stressful situations that any couple must deal with. Even treatments for it can contribute to the stress that the couple goes through. In addition, the irony is that couples that realize that they themselves are stressed can further worsen their infertility thanks to this realization!

But what are some of the factors behind infertility stress? What causes it?

Firstly, it can stem from being initially diagnosed as being infertile in the first place. Many couples try having intercourse for some months or at least a year (of course, unsuccessfully) before they get frustrated and seek the advice of a fertility specialist. And when said specialist diagnoses either partner – or both in some cases – as being infertile, one or both could very well end up feeling depressed and inadequate.

Secondly, should the couple decide to undergo infertility treatments, doing so can further add to their stress. Such treatments can prove exceedingly and prohibitively expensive depending on the treatments required. (Patients, though, may be able to avail of financing options and fertility insurance if they qualify for it.)

And the process itself – having to go in and out of doctors’ waiting rooms and hospitals, among other places, waiting with bated breath for results, and so on and so forth – can also contribute to stress immensely.

Thirdly, even the act of lovemaking itself may contribute to the stress. Many couples may not be able to get past the fact that they are unable to bear children through “the usual way”, through making love, and this can make things very hard for them because if they are unable to consummate the sexual act, they may have to make recourse to more medical procedures.

In addition, sex may feel forced and even something of a chore for the couple, since they would have to be doing it according to a schedule and in order to produce children instead of simply enjoying one another and/or giving each other pleasure.

In addition, men will feel emasculated and feel that they are responsible if they are unable to produce babies with their wives. Having to undergo fertility treatments may be even more demeaning for them. And since men have to produce semen in doctors’ offices, learn that they might have low sperm count or have erectile problems, all these can prove extremely embarrassing to them.

It is extremely important to consider how the couple responds to such stress in the first place. Some can simply take it in stride and be positive even in the face of potential failure; others can be negative right at the outset even if the future for them might not be so bleak, and immediately contemplate having to adopt children while agonizing over how unfair things seem to be, and so on and so forth. This can result in a drastic lowering of self-esteem for couples and individuals.

Infertility can cause many couples to go through extreme strain. Many couples buckle under this strain, and many of them end up breaking up. There are some who end up stronger couples after going through this experience.

3 Top Methods To Conceive A Boy

January 7th, 2010

Many tips for successfully conceiving a baby boy are available online and also written in many books and guides. These guidelines and tips are all proven scientifically. They are not based on old customs and beliefs. In spite of that, there is no way anybody can guarantee the birth of a boy. But a couple can increase the chances of conceiving a baby boy for sure. For successfully giving birth to a boy, one must be aware of all aspects of the process known as conception.

Many guides describe that for a healthy boy to be born, the environment of the mother should be alkaline. Acidic nature of environment may prove fatal to the foetus. Also the male sperm can blossom and grow in alkaline conditions.

Scientifically, the more acidic part of any woman’s vagina is the entrance. The alkaline environment exists near its cervix. Hence, a deeper way of lovemaking is suggested by doctors for those couples who are wishing and trying for a boy. The behavior of the male sperm generally determines the gender of the baby. This fact has been scientifically proven. The male sperm is smaller in size than the female sperm. But it moves with greater speed than the female one. Also the female sperm has a longer life than its male equivalent. Hence, lovemaking is advised as close as possible to the day of ovulation. That increases the chances of a boy. The reasons for that are, as the egg is waiting to ovulate, the male sperms, which are faster than the female ones, will reach the egg and completely avoid the female sperms.

If it is done before the ovulation period starts, the chances of a baby boy decrease greatly. To know when a woman’s ovulation period starts, one can refer to the ovulation prediction kits. They include calendars and tips to what one should do on specific days. The gynecologists and hospitals can provide couples with these tips. The calendars are also found on the internet.

Maintaining a healthy diet is the key to success. Generally intake of proteins and potassium is advised by doctors and health experts too. It is also believed that continuing the daily routine can help. Also intake of calories is necessary and can increase the chances. Daily exercise helps a woman’s body to be fit and ready for pregnancy. For the baby to be healthy, the mother, who acts as the host, should be strong and healthy.

The Usual Criticisms When Using A Midwife

January 2nd, 2010

People basically think of hospitals and doctors when they think of having a baby delivered. But there is a growing movement of women who are wanting to go more natural. There are some women who are actually foregoing the medication during delivery in order to have a more natural mode or nature child birth.

Part of that movement of going natural is having a midwife to give birth. There are definitely a lot of various advantages to this that in this article we are going to discuss.

First of all some people think using a midwife isn’t safe. They think that the safest practice is having a baby with a doctor, since they have all the medical equipment needed. But definitely this is not true because most midwife deliveries are only done with safe pregnancies. If there is any history of complications, in other words, it will definitely not be performed with a midwife. Other then that as a midwife I know first hand midwives know what to do in medical emergencies.

Midwives will not be using any medication that women need, that is actually another common criticism. Because women do not actually need to have drugs for delivery that is why the premise is false. As a matter of fact drugs are the main reason most pregnancies take so long. Because the drug is disrupting the natural delivery, it can normally cause the birth to stop. I have seen first hand as a home birth midwife how much faster natural deliveries are. So there is no need for medication and it only hinders the delivery.

Another vivid and widespread criticism is that midwives are basically not doctors. While that is true it doesn’t mean they don’t know what to do medically. All midwives absolutely need to go through a hard and legal licensing and certification process. This whole process teaches them everything including what medical procedures may need to be performed in certain situations. As a certified midwives practitioner I know first hand that midwives are prepared for emergencies.

As you can see having a baby with a midwife has more benefits then people would have you to believe. It is a safer practice and definitely helps you in order to have a faster delivery than with medications.

Delivering A Baby At Home

January 2nd, 2010

Delivering a baby is absolutely a wonderful experience. Although it is wonderful, there are still many pains and stresses that usually come with delivering a baby. Simply because of that most of the babies are usually delivered in the hospital. But there is definitely a growing movement of strong women having babies at home. And contrary to popular opinion, it is definitely safer than most people would ever imagine. So in this article we are going to look at delivering your baby at home.

First of all when a woman chooses to have a baby at home it is usually performed by a midwife. Midwives are actually women who skillfully assist in delivering the baby. Much like a doctor’s role except in the big fact that they really stress the importance of delivering the baby in a natural way. That is one of the main reasons women come to me in my home birth midwives services. They want to have a baby without using drugs during delivery.

Now the common thought is that most women always use drugs during the delivery of the baby to ease the pain. But in reality, what most women actually don’t realize is that using drugs basically slow down the birth process. And at times it really makes it harder just to deliver the baby.

While a home birth sometimes uses the very common option of delivering in water in order to make the transition for the baby. This process or method of delivery is actually called a water birth. That is one of the big ways to deliver in my home birth services.

Finally most people has the belief that it isn’t safe to deliver a baby at home basically because there isn’t a doctor present. But that isn’t the case. Most of the women who do midwifery are medically trained and understand what to do in an emergency. Most are licensed like the women in my home birth service. This licensing requires a board to oversee their work and knowledge.

So hopefully you can now see that indeed having a baby at home isn’t as dangerous as people usually think. If you are pregnant then it is actually a good option that might be wonderful for you.

The Importance of Acupuncture on Infertility

December 29th, 2009

Since centuries ago, the art and often referred to as the health practice of acupuncture has been practiced in various countries mostly in Asia. This elucidates the grandeur as well as the complexity of pinning needles in different parts of the body for different reasons like pain relief and treatment of health issues. The basic effect of acupuncture on infertility is regulating blood pressure of the person done by proper stimulation of the central nervous system. It largely stimulates the production and release of endorphins that help inhibiting the pain and neurohormones and neurotransmitters that allow for the body to heal by itself.

Acupuncture on infertility is also observed as one of the effective remedies for different infertility problems specifically hormonal imbalance. The levels of hormones are leveled accordingly through increasing blood flow on different vital organs as it regulates the body system. Further on, it helps improve all the important functions of the ovaries and the follicles. The endometrium is largely responsible for thickening the lining of the uterus but also benefits from increased blood flow due to acupuncture. A particular infertility treatment like IVF or In Vitro Fertilization is also greatly aided in elevating its success rate. In actuality, a number of specialists now offer acupuncture as a part of the so called IVF treatment. This becomes quite noticeable in the developments done in the process of transferring the embryo which results to success in pregnancy. Another specific concern of infertility that can also be cured by acupuncture is having spasmed tubes. It can be done through turning these spasmed tubes into de-spasmed ones. Moreover, there are also lots of other infertility issues that can be effectively treated by acupuncture like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, elevated follicle stimulating hormone, repeated pregnancy loss, idiopathic infertility, luteal phase defect, hyperprolactinemia, and sperm DNA fragmentation.

Naturally, the body is capable of healing its self and acupuncture further enhances this capability. In this case, the more you treat yourself to acupuncture the healthier it is for you. Women who are to undergo IVF treatment or donor egg transfer, they are often subjected to acupuncture about 3 to 4 months before the said process. Acupuncture is recommended for women before and after they undergo embryo transfer. This is done for the purpose of enhancing the therapeutic effect along with different infertility treatments. Basically, fertility treatments bring about stress on the person undergoing it. And what is considered the best remedy for this is acupuncture. Because of the fact that acupuncture has many ways to add in the treatment of infertility, it is advisable for couples who suffer from this kind of concern to give every possible option a shot.

Acupuncture also involves some risks but they are minimal. However, miscarriage can occur when acupuncture is done improperly on a pregnant woman. This makes it significant to be sure that acupuncture is only to be done by a certified acupuncturist who is adept and who specializes on this therapy. Electro-acupuncture, a more advanced form of acupuncture is used to inhibit pain during labor. The need to be hospitalized is also significantly reduced which helps a person save from further expenses.

Above all else, recent research studies have revealed that the right mix of herbal medicine, acupuncture, and traditional medicine serve as the ultimate formula to cure infertility. In most cases, acupuncture and herbal medicines are seen to be more effective through the aid of traditional medical interventions.

About Pregnancy: Exercise And Your Baby

December 23rd, 2009

Just a few years ago, telling a woman that she can and should exercise while pregnant would have been met with weird looks and laughter. However, we now know that exercising during pregnancy is not only extremely beneficial to the mother, but to the baby’s long-term health, as well.

Studies show that women who exercised during their pregnancy, and yes, that includes abdominal exercises, had shorter labors and greater outcomes. Moreover, women who exercise during pregnancy are able to get back to their before-pregnancy fitness more rapidly, as well.

Regardless, before embarking on any exercise regimen while pregnant, you should consult your doctor. As a general rule, however, if you had a set regimen before you got pregnant, you should have no complications from continuing that same regimen after. That being said, be sure to monitor your exhaustion level, and remember that staying fit is a great priority, but trying to lose weight for the first time during pregnancy is whole separate thing. If you need to starting losing weight after you have conceived, eat a clean diet.

The best way to determine what level of exercise you can handle after you are pregnant is to continue the original regimen you were on. Then, let your doctor know what cardiovascular and strength training you are doing, and keep him or her informed throughout your pregnancy. By listening to them and your own body, you will be able to monitor you and let you know if it is time to back off on intensity.

One thing you do want to keep in mind before beginning any exercise regimen is body temperature. Your baby’s body does not regulate its own temperature, so you want to make sure that you are performing proper warm up and cool down sessions. Talk to your doctor about this for more specifics.

That being said, while you may be able to run up to the day you give birth, you do want to keep any deep muscle or movements to a minimum. When you are pregnant, your body will naturally produce greater amounts of the hormone relaxin. This hormone will increase your range of motion, because it lubricates your joints. While this may seem nice, this will increase your risk of injury if you are not careful.

In addition to limiting deep muscle movements and other flexibility exercises, try to avoid exercises involving your ability to balance. This would include such activities as biking and using roller blades. While fun, your balance will naturally be off during your pregnancy, and while the exercise itself will not harm you, one fall can really hurt your unborn child.

The best bet is to your use your best judgment, listen to your body, and keep your doctor informed. Exercising is beneficial for you and your child during pregnancy, so long as some common sense is employed.
